Embracing the Finnish Work Culture as a Talent Hub Eastern-Finland -project’s RDI-trainee: My Experience at Karelia UAS

As a final year International Business student at Karelia University of Applied Sciences, I have experienced a blend of academic knowledge and practical experience, all in my role as an RDI-trainee for the Talent Hub Eastern Finland (THEF) -project. This position helped me to contribute effectively to the development of a globally competitive and culturally proficient workforce, in alignment with Karelia’s strategic visionto support internationalization.

My journey as a trainee began when I discovered the opening for the RDI-trainee position, perfectly aligned with my final thesis topic, commissioned by Talent Hub Eastern Finland -project. This opportunity was a gateway to apply my theoretical knowledge in a real-world context, making me the first trainee from Karelia University of Applied Sciences to join this innovative project.

A Multifaceted Role

Throughout my traineeship, I have been actively involved in various facets of the project, enhancing my understanding of Finnish professional practices and enriching my skill set. One of my key responsibilities was organizing events that foster inclusivity and cultural understanding. Among these, the “Etuoikeuskävely – Karelia Belongs to Everyone” event, a privilege walk activity, stands out. It was a part of the National Week Against Racism and received positive feedback for its impactful message and execution.

Additionally, I took charge of producing all marketing materials for this significant week. My role extended beyond event management to engaging in student discussions, enhancing alumni activities, and managing the Talent Hub Eastern Finland -project’s student information stand at various events. Each responsibility I undertook added layers to my professional experience and personal growth.

Networking and Cultural Integration

A significant part of my traineeship has been the opportunity to have the experience in the Finnish working culture. Finland’s work environment is characterized by its inclusivity, efficiency, and a strong emphasis on work-life balance. Through my role, I have had the invaluable opportunity to network with professionals and peers alike, which has been a great help in shaping my understanding of the Finnish labor market and my future career path.

As my traineeship near to complete and I prepare for graduation, I reflect on the profound impact of my experiences at Karelia University of Applied Sciences. The professional exposure and personal development I have gained through my role as an RDI-trainee have not only prepared me for a career in international business but have also instilled a deep appreciation for the dynamics of Finland’s labor market.
