In Karelia research, development, and innovation (RDI) activities are carried out through research and development projects as well as integrated into teaching through assignments, internships, and theses. The goal of RDI activities is to contribute to solving societal challenges, strengthen regional vitality, enhance employment, and develop expertise and knowledge within Karelia.
We conduct our RDI work in an ethical and sustainable manner and in accordance with good scientific practices. Research ethics and good research practices are an important part of teaching and RDI activities. Mastering research ethics is one of the basic skills of an RDI professional, and reflection on research ethics is an essential part of every RDI project. At national level, research ethics is governed by The Finnish National Board on Research Integrity TENK. Our commitment aligns with the guidelines set forth by The Finnish National Board on Research Integrity TENK regarding good scientific practice and handling allegations of misconduct.
Karelia fosters an open science and research culture, which aims to make all the knowledge and expertise produced visible and accessible to those seeking it. The forms of openness include open publication of research data and popularisation of results, opening of research data and open research methods. By promoting transparency, Karelia enhances the societal impact of its research and development activities and enables new forms of collaboration and innovation.
In 2023, Karelia UAS joined the European Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA). The underlying principle of CoARA is responsible assessment of researchers and research, which manifests in various aspects such as diversity, equality, quality, and transparency of researcher and research assessment.
