Karelia University of Applied Sciences participated in an external evaluation focused on open science and research for Finnish universities and research institutions. The evaluation was conducted by the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Culture.
In the assessment, Karelia UAS attained the highest rating of five (5) on a scale of 1 to 5. In the previous evaluation in 2022, Karelia UAS received a rating of 4.
The evaluation reviewed the university’s development and practices regarding open science principles. Karelia UAS was assessed across different areas of openness (publishing, data and infrastructure, learning, and organisational culture) and implementation methods (such as guiding documents, services, and collaboration). Progress was noted in all areas, with the most marked improvement in open learning.
“Karelia UAS qualitative improvement is based on the systematic development of open science processes, staff training, and integrating openness principles throughout our activities,” summarises Anne Ilvonen, Director of Research and Development at Karelia UAS.
The evaluation is significant not only for European and national commitments but also for RDI funders, the Ministry of Education and Culture, and the Finnish research community as a whole.
