An academic year (1 August – 31 July) is divided into autumn and spring terms and in addition, into three periods, i.e. autumn, spring and summer periods. New students will start their studies on 19 August 2024.

Spring Period 7.1. – 1.6.2025
K1 7.1. – 9.3.2025

No autumn or winter breaks are scheduled during autumn and spring periods, but Christmas, New Year and Easter time are free of scheduled studies.
Summer studies conducted during the summer period provide you with an opportunity to speed up studies. No common teaching for degree students will be arranged during this period. Degree students studying during this summer period can apply for financial aid for this period separately. Read more about applying for financial aid during the summer on Kela website.
Week 10 in March and week 42 in October are school holiday weeks in North Karelia. Those weeks are referred to as self-study weeks at Karelia, which means that there are no classes. Check this, however, with your tutor teacher or international coordinator.
Summer period: Summer studies conducted during the summer period provide the students with an opportunity to speed up their studies by taking degree-related studies in summer time. No common teaching for degree students will be arranged during this period.
There are Public Holidays every year in Finland. Some of the dates vary. Please check the National Holidays from the Helsinki University Almanac webpage.
Schedules for your studies
All Karelia UAS schedules can be found at Lukkarikone. Schedules for Autumn 2024 classes will be published by the end of the June 2024. (changes are possible).
You will find your schedule by searching with your year group code. The year group code is for International Business LBNS24, Industrial Management IINS24 and Information and Communication Technology ICNS24. In the beginning of studies, the main groups are likely to be divided into smaller groups for educational reasons. You can find the timetables for your group, for specific courses and teachers by using the following search commands:
International business: LBNS24A, LBNS24B, LBNS24C or LBNS24D
Industrial Management: IINS24A or IINS24B
Information and Communication Technology: ICNS24A or ICNS24B

Courses taking place during the same semester do not all start at the same time. Your weekly schedule is different for each week.
In addition to classes, you study independently which means that you e.g. get familiar with study materials and literature and complete individual and group learning assignments.
In some courses, the year group is divided into smaller groups. Therefore, in the schedules, there will be the same lessons for different groups at different times. The groups are formed once the studies begin.
