Learning and Service Environment TARMO

TARMO is a learning and service environment at Karelia University of Applied Sciences where students can carry out their practical training periods. The activities are supervised and coordinated by licensed healthcare professionals. TARMO practical placements are open to students from all degree programmes, as well as to exchange students!

The operating principle of TARMO is to support overall well-being and to promote health. Our operating model is a multidisciplinary team model, in which, for example, physiotherapy, nursing, public health nursing, applied gerontology, and social services students work in pairs or in small groups.

Services for Individuals

Individual Consultations

Do you need support in promoting overall health and well-being? TARMO students offer support in lifestyle changes, provide guidance and advice on exercise or starting to exercise, and help with musculoskeletal problems.

Our students see individual clients in a multidisciplinary and customer-oriented manner. Our reception rooms are located at Tikkarinne campus (Tikkarinne 9). We have three reception rooms, a separate testing room, a gym and a group exercise room at our disposal. If necessary, we can also make home visits. Students receive clients independently, and the coordinators are present on visits as needed. On the first visit, a background information form is filled out and the necessary visits are planned. The visits can be continued for as long as they are needed. We are open on weekdays from 8 am to 4 pm between September and May.

Services for Businesses, Associations and Organisations

TARMO would not be possible without our partners! We work with many different stakeholders throughout the region. We organize health-promoting group activities and events for people in various life situations, both on the Tikkarinne campus and in our partners’ facilities. For example, we have organized fitness groups at Tikkarinne, well-being events at primary schools, and mobility screenings for junior teams.

If you are interested in partnering with us to promote health and well-being, please feel free to contact our coordinators (see contact information below). We plan our activities for the next semester during the previous semester, so we encourage you to contact us as early as possible, preferably at least 2 months before the event.
