Orientation

The International Office arranges an orientation programme for the incoming exchange students at the beginning of the autumn and spring semester. The programme will be sent to the students prior to their arrival via email.

The next pre-arrival webinar for incoming exchange students will be on 13th December 2024 at 14:00 – 15:30 EET (Finnish time). A link to the webinar will be sent to the accepted incoming exchange students in November.

The orientation days for Spring 2025 exchange students will take place on 7 – 8 January 2025 on Karelia’s Tikkarinne campus.

Before the orientation programme

Exchange students are recommended to arrive in Joensuu couple of days before the beginning of the orientation days in order to have time to settle in. Please note that 6th January (Epiphany) is a public holiday and the university and Joensuun Elli Student Housing Office are closed.

During the orientation programme

During the orientation programme students will receive useful information about studies at Karelia University of Applied Sciences, Finnish culture and society and learn many practical things about living in Finland and in Joensuu. Students get to know each other and Karelia’s tutor students.

After the orientation programme

After the orientation programme starts an introductory course in the Finnish language and culture (course code LTP7130, 2 ECTS).

Learning agreements and training agreements will be checked with one’s Departmental International Coordinator. For information on courses available for exchange students, please see the list here or contact the Departmental International Coordinators.
