Useful experience in working in multicultural teams

I am from Russia, Saint-Petersburg, and when the question of getting higher education arose in high school, I realized that I wanted to study my degree in Europe. Then I faced a rather difficult choice of country and university. I decided to choose Finland, because here I have relatives who can help if needed. Also, Finland is conveniently located and can be easily reached by car from Saint-Petersburg. But choosing a university was more difficult because there are a lot of excellent universities in Finland. In the end, I chose Karelia, and here I am. I applied to the Degree Programme in International Business because I considered it a rather promising. I was not mistaken. 

During the 4 years of study, a lot has happened. The study went quite well. I’ve met new people from all over the world and created many connections. I’ve participated in interesting projects and gained excellent experience, both professional and social. I acquired many useful skills, learned marketing and management by creating business plans and doing financial calculations. I also gained useful experience working in multicultural teams. 

Life in Joensuu may seem quite measured and calm, but this is a deceptive feeling. It is important to find good friends who can motivate you to do what you like. At first, I went to different events, but now I have become the person who organizes parties myself and brings people together. So they get to know each other, communicate and have fun. In this city, every day something happens, you just need to take the initiative and not to be afraid to leave your comfort zone. 

I would recommend applying to Karelia to everyone who wants to gain new experience and is open to communication with interesting people. And everyone who wants to travel and get to know new cultures are also welcome to study at Karelia UAS because the university has an exchange program thanks to which you can go study at any of our partner universities that are all spread over the world.
